Animal Print - Copy Cat Closet

Yikes! What a tricky challenge for me. I'm so not an animal print kind of girl. So here's the story behind my journey to successfully complete this challenge:

My friend Marie and I agreed to wear something new and exciting to our school's homecoming dance Senior year. I was shopping at the mall and I found this top on sale from Wet Seal for $3. It was basically just a scarf with a ribbon on it, but it was zebra print and obviously a steal. Long story short, I bought it, but as I was walking out the door to go to the dance - my top broke! The ribbon completely popped off and I had to quickly change into another dress. I've been using the top as a head scarf for the past few years, but I brought it back to it's original purpose today for this challenge!

Ombre Green Manicure

How to do an ombre manicure using only two nail polish colors!

With Valentine's Day behind us, I was inspired to create a St Patrick's Day manicure!

I've seen a lot of ombre manis that require five different color polishes to achieve the effect, and that's a lot of polish! I don't know about you, but even with my fairly sizable collection I don't have 5 polishes of any one color. I've done a similar tutorial before using polishes with contrasting colors, but I love the way this turned out with such similar shades.

This is Where I Leave You - 52 books in 52 weeks

2013 Reading Challenge

2013 Reading Challenge
Tessa has read 9 books toward her goal of 52 books.

Here I am in the middle of February, and so far I've kept up with my New Years Resolution to read a book every week this year. In fact, I'm a little bit ahead! I'm not going to get too proud, because I know once summer comes I won't have the same curl-up-and-read feelings that this dreary weather gives me. I'm tracking my progress on Goodreads, an awesome website that you should definitely check out, and maybe start your own reading challenge!

Floral - Copy Cat Closet

I've added a Copy Cat Board to my Pinterest page. Check it out for brainstorming ideas for the weekly challenge!

This week's challenge was by Ilene at Much Love, Illy. She inspired us to wear floral prints now, not waiting until spring. I must say that this a challenge I can get behind! I love wearing florals, and had no trouble finding some fun pieces in my closet. This first outfit was based on the dress and jacket combo in Ilene's challenge. While it's nowhere near cold enough in Jackson for a leather jacket, I did layer the sleeveless dress with a lightweight cardigan.

Weekend Update - Red Lipstick

Sometimes, you just gotta wear some red lipstick.

Even if you're just sitting home along, eating popcorn, crafting, and watching The Big Bang Theory.
Sometimes it's nice to know you look like a classy lady, even if nobody else is around to see it.

I'm taking a rare night for myself - working on a knitting project that's just for me. Not for Etsy, not a gift, not a commission. Just for me.
I'm watching a show I love and makes me laugh, even if it's silly and nerdy (but not even nerdy enough to get any geeky street cred).
Eating 'Movie Theater' popcorn, with all the extra cancer-causing calories, because I'm way too lazy to make a dinner that takes more than 3 1/2 minutes to cook.
Tomorrow will be crazy: a great, friends-and-fun-filled kind of crazy, but busy and exhausting nonetheless. I'm cooking something for potluck, singing in church, afternoon with family, callback audition in the evening. It'll be Monday before I know it and the week will fill up faster then I can imagine and it will probably be next Saturday night before I'll find another second to breathe.

But right now: I'm resting, I'm happy, and my lipstick looks fabulous.

Stripes - Copy Cat Closet

What gross weather we're having! I guess I can't really complain because we're safe from the storms up north. It's all turned into crazy rain by the time it gets down to Jackson. Anyways, sorry for the janky pictures. I kept waiting for a break in the rain to go snap a few pictures after church, but we started playing Settlers of Catan and I missed my chance for daylight pics!

I've added a Copy Cat Board to my Pinterest page. Check it out for brainstorming ideas for the weekly challenge. This week we were inspired by Kelley at The Grant Life. I'm an avoider of stripes, I've never really liked how they look on me. I did, however, pick up this really cute and comfy button up from Target a few months ago, and have hardly work it. I was glad to have a reason to pull it out of my closet!

Big Sister Party

When I was 3 1/2, my amazingly beautiful little sister Emma was born. My mom, being the insightful and loving woman that she is, knew that this was going to shake up my so-far-only-child little life a whole bunch. She got some of my friends together, raided Goodwill for some dress up clothes, and a few weeks before my sister made for her first appearance into the world: threw me a 'big sister tea party'. My mom is clearly the best!

I was telling my friend Sarah about this, and she decided to do the same thing for her sweet girl, who was expecting a little brother. I jumped at the chance to help out, because it was such a great memory of mine to have a 'last hurrah' special day as the only kid in the family.

We hit up a few thrift stores and raided our closets for all the scarves, hats, and beads a little girl's heart could handle. Once they got all dressed up, the girls danced and played while we put the finishing touches on the snacks.

My awesome 13-yeard-old friend helped out with the little ones. As you can see she was the best, and kept the girls entertained for quite a while.

Sarah prepared some plain sugar cookies and white frosted cupcakes for the girls to decorate, while my sister Emma sliced up fruit and I set the table.

Everyone got a cupcake and cookie to decorate, with a ton of sprinkle choices.

The sweets were of course a big hit!

Here's the beautiful soon-to-be big sister enjoying the icing on her cupcake.

As the party came to a close, Sarah read everyone (especially her daughter) the Bernstein Bear's book where they get a new baby. It was basically the cutest thing that's ever happened.

Here are some of the party guests in all their finery! Complete with a shot of me cleaning up afterwards looking oh-so-fabulous in my frumpy hat and frilly boa:

It was so, so special to get to share this fun time with little K and her mama! I know she felt loved and enjoyed a party just for her. I was especially glad to get to share it with my little sister, too. She's my favorite person, and her arrival in my life changed it for the better one thousand percent! Seriously, she's amazing and super adorable to boot:

Thanks for reading, as always, and I hope you have a blessed day!
